Tapas Hofmann

So yesterday after the emergency vet visit and a 6-miler, we had Mom and our friend, Rob, over for dinner, tapas-style. Tapas is basically the Spanish version of the izakaya. The food we prepared wasn't Spanish, per se, but it was the huge variety in small portions that made it tapas. It was a lot of fun -- too much the night before a work day! But that's ok because we didn't go out tonight for Cinco de Mayo - just yoga and Moe's for dinner. Who really celebrates Cinco de Mayo anyway, and why? Just an excuse to go out and bring out the monkey with copious amounts of margaritas and tequila shots. It's all good - but walk into any fine drinking establishment tonight and ask a patron what the hell Cinco de Mayo actually is and I guarantee they'll be clueless! I suspect Hallmark has teamed up with Jose Cuervo to commercialize yet another holiday.

Blasphemy! Is that ice water your mom is drinking out of a Kirin glass? Hook her up! You guys have way too much fun. Looks like Luna Chan is doing better. That tongue is so cute!

Yeah, Mom's not big on the beer. Maybe a very occasional sip of wine or sangria, but that's it. We visited the Kirin Beer Village in Yokohama a couple times and I went a little overboard at the gift shop at the end of the tour. They're smart - they get you liquored up on the tour (2 big complimentary glasses - take that Anheuser-Busch!) and dump you out into the gift shop.

We have a local brewery around here, Sweetwater 420, that I actually would like to visit. When I was in DC my brother and I went to the grocery store one night to get beer and they had some Sweetwater. If you can find it down in Florida you should try it.

Aren't I glamorous?
