Fun Day Saturday

Today was good. Akemi started early without me, teaching a 9am class. I couldn't drag my lazy butt out of bed for a run, so I took the 11am class. Akemi couldn't take the 11am class because she was having GI distress, possibly because of a bad mussel she ate last night. After my class, I headed over to the NEX barbershop where I asked for a simple fade haircut, but walked out with an extreme high-and-tight! What the eff!!!?? I look like a freakin' Marine recruit! Oh well, it'll grow back eventually, but it might scare my patients next week! I came home, picked up Akemi and my 15yo nephew and we headed to the beach. James, my nephew, tried surfing for the first time today. I was so proud - he actually rode two waves! That was so much fun! We wrapped up the day by going out to Singleton's Seafood Shack for dinner with my mom. It truly is a "shack". I don't know what's keeping that place from sliding off the bank and right into the river! But that just adds to its 'salt of the earth' ambience. Good times! And the great thing is, it's only about a 10 minute drive from our house and has a beautiful view of the St. John's River and the Mayport Ferry which taxis cars back and forth. Unfortunately, our evening was cut a little short because James became severely stomach ill and almost barfed in the parking lot. I think it was either that giant basket of greasy onion rings he ate, or that scallop I made him try. Hope he's not allergic to shellfish!! Imagine that - two stomach ailments in one day!

It's fun days like this that dull the prickly corners of this malicious town that I endure Monday through Friday.

Sorry about that first photo. Our waitress, Cool Hand Luke, took that one.

Malicious town?! I recall Jacksonville as a pretty cool place. You wanna trade? I'm thinking about heading down there to watch my Falcons in their first preseason game. Stub hub rules.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't complain. Sometimes it feels like a one-horse town, but occasionally it does have its charm. The beaches are one of the best things it has going for it.

Fo sho! It's not that bad! I didn't even go anywhere but the hotel and we walked to the stadium and I liked the place.

Aren't I glamorous?
